The first step to ensuring eco-friendly disposal of electrical and electronic equipment is to extend the life of the electronics you have.

This will make certain that you do not need to dispose of e-waste regularly.

Another tip is to buy environmentally friendly electronics whenever possible.

If you are simply discarding your gadgets because you are upgrading to a better version, you should consider donating them to someone who needs them.

Nowadays, under the WEEE Regulations companies are obliged to take back electronic gadgets or, at least, point you in the direction of somewhere you can dispose of them safely.

Last but not least, one of the safest and most effective ways to make sure your electronic waste is disposed of correctly is to use the services of an e-waste recycling company.

You can be 100% certain that Ecogreen IT will destroy your data safely and securely with our stringent methods of destruction based on the latest National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) recommendations (no affiliation). We will provide you with a full audit report alongside all data destruction certifications.

This can be done by physical destruction which completely destroys the hard drive. Alternatively, it can be done using the DoD 5220.22-M data sanitisation method. This can be a 1 or 3 wipe procedure depending on how sensitive the data is.
